Biography

Corey Wilcox is trombonist, composer & arranger who originally grew up at the southeastern part of America, known as Jacksonville, Florida.
In his earlier years of development, he grew up in a musical family such as his own parents that influenced him to be a musician. His mother Danielle Wilcox is a professional clarinetist, pianist and music teacher who has taught at many different schools as a band director at Raines Highschool, and Terry Parker Highschool in Jacksonville, Florida, while his father Wycliffe Gordon is a world renowned trombonist and taught at the Juilliard School Of Music in New York City. 
He was heavily influenced by the Florida A&M Marching 100 that inspired him to pick up the trombone at the age of 13, which also lead him to playing many different styles of music such as Black American Gospel, Blues, and New Orleans Music.
During his early artistic development over the years, he also grew a deep passion & love for the sophisticated arts of jazz music such as J.J.Johnson, Curtis Fuller, & Slide Hampton, as his main influence from the very beginning on trombone.
Corey attended the Oberlin Conservatory School Of Music under the direction of Wendell Logan (Director of the Jazz Department), and studied under Robin Eubanks (Trombone Faculty).

Wilcox is a multi-instrumentalist who also plays euphonium, sousaphone, and whistling in various ensembles including being the guest artist of Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra, Jon Batiste & Stay Human, Mwenso & The Shakes, Slide Hampton Trombone Choir, Frank Lacy & The Tromboniverse, Etienne Charles Big Band, Josh Evans Big Band, Sharp Radway Big Band, Jazzmeia Horn Big Band, Evan Sherman Big Band, Lucky Chops, High & Mighty Brass Band, Kim Wilson and the Thunderbirds, Hudson Horns and many other ensembles.

He has toured and performed at major venues worldwide including the New York City Jazz Scene such as the Village Vanguard, Carnegie Hall, Blue Note, Smoke Jazz Club, Dizzy's Coca Colas Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Newport, Detroit, & New Orleans Jazz Festivals, Stephen Colbert Show etc.
As a music educator Wilcox has been a guest artist and music instructor at various institutions nationwide, including places like University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Temple University and Savannah Music Festival. From 2014-2019  he taught at "Swing Central", where he was coaching at least 15 different high school jazz bands about the history of the big band swing era. He also been teaching international trombone lessons. 

Corey Wilcox is an acclaimed band leader and composer with a debut album "I Could Imagine" (2011 Blues Back Records).
